The perfect way to get to know the Douro region is definitely to visit a wine producing farm (and do a tasting, of course)!
Quinta do Bomfim, located in the heart of the Alto Douro, is the birthplace of two of the most famous port wines of the 21st century: the 2007 Dow Vintage Port and the 2011 Dow Vintage Port.
The tour starts in a small museum telling the history of the estate, the family and the wines. Next you will take a walk through the vineyards and enjoy great views of the vineyards in the surrounding mountains, some with dry stone terraces built by hand in the 18th and 19th centuries.
This package includes a visit to the old inn built in 1896. The vast barrel cellar, with its extraordinarily complex roof structure, has been used for over a hundred years to store all the Port wines from each vintage on the estate before being taken downstream to Vila Nova de Gaia where maturation takes place in the cellars.
In the wine tasting, you will have the opportunity to taste 2 Ruby and 1 Tawny 10 years old, Port wines of great quality and prestige.
During the harvest you can watch the grapes arriving at the winery and the Port being made in the lagares.
