Why choose this experience

This trip will show you the best of two worlds: City and Nature. Venture on a cultural, gastronomic and wine experience in the Lisbon area and then relax in the stunning Madeira Island.

Lisbon is perfect for history, gastronomy and architecture aficionados.

Crowned by the castle of São Jorge (Saint George), Portugal's capital - and Europe's second oldest capital - is a city filled with hills, beautiful views, unique neighbourhoods, quaint shops and historic monuments.

The tour begins with a half-day tour of Lisbon's main sights and then leaves you free to explore the city independently, either on foot or by public transport. In the evening, you will attend a Fado show and have dinner at a typical and renowned restaurant in Bairro Alto.

This package also includes a full day excursion to Sintra and Cascais and another to Evora.

Next, you will fly to Madeira, the island of Eternal Spring. Besides the breathtaking views, Funchal's famous cuisine and relaxing walks, for the more adventurous and energetic, the opportunities are endless with plenty to choose from: levada walks, mountain walks, sailing, dolphin and whale watching, diving and much more.

In Madeira you will find wonderful parks and gardens with exotic flowers, seascapes with blue ocean, towering cliffs, rustic villages in quiet valleys, really good views and rugged mountains whose peaks are higher than Scotland's - we'll show you all the best places to go!

Venture out on this wonderful tour and experience the best of both worlds.

Day 2 - Discover the best of the Portuguese capital

After breakfast at the hotel, you will take a half-day city tour with our tour guide. The tour will start at Avenida da Liberdade, one of the city's main streets which, in monarchical times, the nobility and the royal family strolled and exhibited to the people. Then we will head for the Parque Eduardo VII, the largest park in central Lisbon, to enjoy the views over the city. This name was given in 1903 in honour of the English King Edward VII, who visited the Portuguese capital to reaffirm the alliance between the two countries.

Next, we will visit some of Lisbon's most typical and picturesque neighbourhoods, such as Alfama and Bairro Alto, where traditions are still preserved, reflecting the mixture of people from different cultures and beliefs over the centuries.

We will finish our visit in Praça do Comércio, one of the largest squares in Europe and home to some government institutions. From here you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Tagus River and contemplate the bustle of the city, which merge into a harmonious landscape.

You will have the afternoon free to rest or do any activity you wish.

Sintra is about 30 km from Lisbon and offers a glimpse of Paradise. The mild climate ensures a permanent freshness and the existence of luxuriant vegetation makes Sintra a deeply romantic and mysterious place. Highlights include the Village Palace, Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle (closed on 24th and 25th December, 1st January and Easter Sunday).

After lunch (not included), you will visit Cascais, a fishing village dating back to the 12th century and very well preserved to this day, considered one of the most refined and charming areas of Lisbon.

On your return to Lisbon, you will pass through Estoril so that you can admire the beautiful coastline and its magnificent beaches.

On the seventh day it's time to explore the east side of the island!

The first stop will be at Terreiro da Luta.

The journey will continue towards the mountain of Pico do Areeiro. At an altitude of 1818 metres, it is the third highest peak on the island and offers breathtaking views.

Next you will descend towards the coast through the forest to the last of Madeira's emblematic straw houses. Passing picturesque villages and stunning seascapes, you will reach the easternmost point of the island, where you can enjoy superb views of the north and the sunny south coast in one panoramic vista.

On the northern slope of the island, the tour reaches a popular spot for levada walks, Ribeiro Frio. With its interesting trout ponds, this area still retains much of its original vegetation. The island was once completely covered by the Laurissilva forest, a relic from prehistoric times.

Lunch will be spent in Santana, known for its small thatched triangular houses.

Then you will head towards Ponta de São Lourenço, situated on the eastern part of the island, where there is a fantastic combination of rocks, sea and nature.
